Minnesota Abortion Action Committee
About Us
The Minnesota Abortion Action Committee (MNAAC) was founded in response to the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. We are a grassroots, volunteer-run organization fighting for reproductive justice.
Points of Unity
Defend and Expand Women’s and Reproductive Rights – Abortion Rights for All!
The attack on abortion rights and access primarily targets women and their right to choose. Despite being the primary targets and the majority of those affected, cis women are not the only people whose rights are under attack – many trans men, non-binary people, and intersex people are also at risk. We demand that abortions be legally, safely, and freely available to all who need them!
Defend Bodily Autonomy
We maintain that the overturning of Roe v. Wade and all attempts to limit or ban abortions are fundamentally an attack on bodily autonomy. The right to have an abortion and the right to have children and raise them in dignity is fundamentally a matter of choice. We oppose all measures that limit a person’s ability to make that decision for themselves and demand that the right to choose be protected. We oppose the idea that pregnancy and giving birth are automatic, necessary consequences of what people do with their own bodies. We also recognize that bodily autonomy includes other fundamental rights, such as freedom from police violence and state repression, expanding immigrant rights, upholding indigenous sovereignty, and protecting the rights of workers.
Expand Access to Reproductive Healthcare in Minnesota and the Rest of the U.S.
We believe that access to surgical abortions is only one avenue for women’s and reproductive healthcare. We demand that over-the-counter abortifacients, morning-after pills (“Plan-B”), and contraceptives be freely available and accessible to all.
Oppose “Crisis Pregnancy Centers” or Anti-Abortion Centers
So-called “crisis pregnancy centers” are organizations that use misleading naming and advertising to appeal to those seeking abortion, only to instead persuade them to seek other options. The anti-abortion ideology of these centers takes priority over the well-being of the pregnant people seeking care at these centers, causing them to not receive comprehensive, accurate, evidence-based clinical information about all available options. In Minnesota alone, they outnumber real abortion clinics 11:1. We demand the removal of these predatory centers from our communities and their replacement with healthcare that is medically accurate and unbiased, as well as resources for pregnant people and families free from a religious agenda.
Protect Comprehensive Sex Education
Those that ban abortions are often the same that oppose comprehensive sex education. Comprehensive education about STIs, contraception, abortion, and consent gives people the tools to make informed decisions about their bodies, prevent unwanted pregnancies, and respond to unexpected pregnancies. We oppose any attempts to remove comprehensive sex education from school curricula. We demand that existing and future comprehensive sex ed be up-to-date, medically accurate, and protected.
Uphold the St. Paul Principles
The St. Paul Principles are a longtime staple of organizing throughout many of the progressive people’s struggles. As we are made up of members representing many different organizations and movements, we uphold these principles as a cornerstone of our organizing.
- Our solidarity will be based on respect for a diversity of tactics and the plans of other groups.
- The actions and tactics used will be organized to maintain a separation of time or space.
- Any debates or criticisms will stay internal to the movement, avoiding any public or media denunciations of fellow activists and events.
- We oppose any state repression of dissent, including surveillance, infiltration, disruption and violence. We agree not to assist law enforcement against activists and others.
